Once the lead appointed party is officially selected for the trigger event-related project, a number of steps need to be taken. These steps include updating the BIM Execution Plan document, creating the Responsibility Matrix, and creating Task and Master Information Delivery Plans.

Confirm the delivery team’s BIM execution plan.

Following the appointment, the lead appointed party will confirm the delivery team`s BIM Execution Plan (BIM execution plan).

This (live) document will be confirmed, shared, and agreed upon by all stakeholders (who create the delivery team; see Figure 3 ISO 19650). In case of any comments or agreed changes to the document, the lead appointed party will update and re-share it with all parties. Any changes to the EIR document agreed upon with the appointing party will result in BIM execution plan updates.

For more information, please see clause 5.4.1. I.S. EN ISO 19650-3.

Establishment of responsibility matrix.

The lead appointed party will create or update (in case of creation during the tendering stage) a matrix that is typically in the form of a table. This document`s role is to indicate who amongst the delivery team is responsible for information production and delivery. Additional considerations are listed in clause 5.4.2. of I.S. EN ISO 19650-3.

Establish the lead appointed party’s EIR (ISO 19650-3).

The lead appointed party will share (Operational Phase trigger event related) the EIR document with all the delivery team, appointed parties and third parties that are involved in the appointment.

Refer to EIR in Delivery phase of the assets guide

Establish the task information delivery plan(s).

The Task Information Delivery Plan (TIDP)– is a list of all deliverables (operation Phase) per task team (i.e. Structural Team). This list is the responsibility of each task team.

The content and considerations of a TIDP are listed under clause 5.4.4 of I.S. EN ISO 19650-3.

TIDP is a live document/register – that needs to be updated by appointed parties/task teams as required throughout the appointment.

Refer to Task Information Delivery Plan (TIDP) in Delivery phase of the assets guide

Establish the master information delivery plan.

The Master Information Delivery Plan document (MIDP) is a collection of all TIDPs (Step 4.4) amalgamated by the lead appointed party. Each task team is to provide TIDPs to the lead appointed party.

MIDP, like TIDPs, is a live document maintained by lead appointed party through task team updates.

The contents and considerations of an MIDP are listed under clause 5.4.5 of I.S. EN ISO 19650-3.

Complete lead appointed party’s appointment

Lead appointed party appointment – appointing party (Client/Owner/Sanctioning Authority) will complete appointment as a result of the tendering process.

It is crucial that the resources listed in 7.5. are completed at this stage.

Additional activities related to this stage are listed under clause 5.4.6 of the I.S. EN ISO 19650-3.

Complete appointed party’s appointment

The final step is the appointment of the appointed party. Following the successful tender outcome, the lead appointed party will appoint appointed parties (sub-contractors) if needed. As a part of this step, the lead appointed party should ensure that all sub-contractors, appointed parties and third parties have access to all resources created during this appointment stage.

Additional considerations are listed under clause 5.4.7 of the I.S. EN ISO 19650-3.
