The information management task must be carried out throughout the asset's lifecycle. The task of managing information should be given to experienced personnel. During the delivery phase, a significant amount of information is generated, but only the information agreed for information exchange should be handed over to the appointing party.
The information management process starts each time a new delivery or operational phase appointment is made. This involves preparing the EIR, tendering, selecting delivery teams, creating information delivery plans, collaborative working using CDE, creating graphical information, data, and documents and then handing over the information for asset management.
With an appreciation of the core concepts and principles understood, the next section will explore the information management process within the context of the delivery phase of assets.
“The information management process should be applied in a way that is proportionate to the scale and complexity of the project or asset management activities.”
